Dear some one You inherited your surname. You inherited your culture.
You may have even inherited your church.
But you cannot inherit a relationship with God.
Many people know God because:
Their parents knew Him
Their pastor taught about Him
Their church introduced Him
But have you encountered Him for yourself?
"These people draw near to Me with their mouth and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me." Matthevw 15:8
You can sound close to God and still be far from Him.
There is a difference between:
Knowing about God
and
KNOWING GOD.
One is information.
The other is relationship.
The sons of Eli grew up in God's house. They saw sacrifices.
They saw ministry.
They saw worship.
Yet Scripture says they did not know the Lord.
Proximity is not intimacy.
(1 Samuel 2:12)
Meanwhile, Samuel grew up in the same environment.
But Samuel responded when God called.
Same house.
Same atmosphere.
Different relationship.
"And the child Samuel grew in stature, and in favor both with the Lord and men."
1 Samuel 2:26
God doesn't want you to know Him through someone else.
He wants you to know Him personally.
Here's a hard question:
If your parents stopped praying...
Would you still seek God?
If church services stopped..
Would you still worship?
If nobody reminded you...
Would you still pursue Him?
Faith that survives pressure
is usually faith that became personal.
Borrowed convictions rarely survive storms.
"But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul."
Deuteronomy 4:29
God has always wanted to be found personally.
Your parents can introduce you to God. Your pastor can teach you about God.
BUT NEITHER CAN KNOW GOD FOR YOU.
Don't settle for inherited Christianity. Pursue a personal relationship with Jesus.
Because one day the question won't be: "Did your family know God?"
The question will be:
"DID YOU KNOW HIM?"
